As educators, we should be an example to our students. We should read; we should be curious; we should learn and be willing to grow; we should open ourselves up to new ideas. If we see the world in exactly the same way we did 5 years ago, we’re not doing it right.

It’s important to have a knowledge of learning, but it may be even more important to have a knowledge of your learners.

Every time a leader collaborates, he or she communicates to colleagues that they are valued. Every time a leader collaborates he or she also learns information that will allow for a more effective decision. So in the words of Vanilla Ice: “Stop! Collaborate and listen.”

Teachers have a lot of really good ideas. School leaders should never underestimate this. It starts with conversations.

We can’t expect our students to learn responsibility if we don’t ever give them any freedom.

I asked a school principal, a football coach and business leader when their team became a powerful team. They all said when we served each other instead of ourselves. We before me!
