I spent a very real 30+ minutes in the storage room with my students. We waited for police officers to evacuate us safely. We left, past many officers with large guns, with our hands up over our heads. I’m grateful it was a hoax, yet this should not so easily become reality.

When I retweeted this in May, I had done all this but hoped never to put it to use. This week, my students & I spent close to 50 minutes in a closet waiting for help because of a HOAX. Unfortunately, the police with guns were REAL, the hurt & fear was REAL, the trauma was REAL!

The Republican nominee for education superintendent Ellen Weaver won’t have a master’s degree as required by SC law at the time of the Nov. 8 election. She is unqualified to lead our schools if she lacks the basic education that our teachers and principals are expected to have.
