Grateful to the surgeons, EM docs, and especially the participants from 25 hospitals who made the #CODATrial. We compared #antibiotics with #surgery to treat #appendicitis. Longer-term outcome results at #ACSCC21 released now and in NEJM today

Study findings suggest that for patients considering antibiotics who want to better understand their chance of appendectomy, assessing appendicolith status may be informative. ja.ma/3fyDADr

The TRIAD implementation program is building on results of the #CODATrial and will lead to more informed decision-making related to antibiotics for appendicitis and better outcomes with antibiotics treatment. More to come soon on this exciting project! GianaDavidson MD MPH

The #CODAtrial emphasized culturally sensitive, language concordant care and found that antibiotic management of acute appendicitis didn’t lead to worse clinical outcomes in Spanish-speaking patients. ja.ma/447BW35
