Each day in prison is a fight. I fight to stay alive, fight depression, fight to get my heart pills from medical, FIGHT. I'm tired of fighting. Sometimes I just want to throw my hands up and surrender. But I must show these young cats how to fight, cause they don't seem to get it

I know it feels like prison reform is moving at a snail's pace, especially for many who are close to dying in their cells or the innocent. The problems seem so huge and insurmountable - but they ARE NOT. We must keep moving, shouting, praying - together we can move mountains.

The prison industrial complex is built on money for sure. I believe included in this unjust system is the shaming and putting fear into the offender they will never amount to anything more than a criminal. We're not defined by our past and we believe in a world of second chances!

Today feels different for some reason. The things going on around me are the same: Chaos, violence, blood, fear. But my eyes are focused on different things. An Adele song, a poetry book, the sun from my cell window. Perspective is everything. What are you seeing?

It's never too late to start over. Convicts must forgive themselves, seek forgiveness when possible from whom we've harmed, and then go forward learning from the transgressions that brought us to prison.

Offering food in prison to a stranger helps me navigate the craziness. Taking violence off the table as a remedy for a situation, opens your mind to a vast array of other possibilities - thinking outside the box in order to find peace & understanding. Offer a burrito not a shank

I volunteer with people loving nashville. They are a wonderful group meeting and feeding people right where they are in life. I'm blessed to be able to serve. This is the same place I lived after getting out of from 10 years of prison.

Building community inside the walls of prison is extremely important but very difficult. Can I trust this person? Will they turn on me? Finding a group to build community means getting through the day or the minute, sometimes the breathe.

Father's Day is solemn at a men's prison. We reflect on the pain we caused, especially to our families. My son stopped taking my calls & letters years ago. I pray for him each night. I pray that this year men in prison & their children find reconciliation if needed. Dad loves you

Society often thinks of incarceration as something people live through & from which they can ultimately be released. But the reality is that time spent in prisons & jails can create a host of collateral consequences that haunt people long after release.

God is found in the shared meal of ramen, fake cheese, and summer smoked sausage gathered and shared—each giving what small contribution they have to make a whole. In prison one must steal their humanity back through simple insurrections of love and community.
