Authorities tell me that the gun the shooter used when he opened fire inside Wilmer Hutchins High School Tuesday jammed when he was firing point blank at one of the victims, likely saving their life.

#Breaking Tallahassee police briefing at FSU happening right now, 2 dead, they were not students according to police. 5 injured and transported. The alleged shooter was captured and described as a current student. CBS News Texas

From Leon county sheriff, the shooter at FSU today is a student, identified as Phoenix Eichner, who's mother is described as a Leon county sheriff. Sheriff also says Eichner was active in the Sheriff's youth program. Eichner is alive, and in custody in a local hospital.

FSU shooting, 1 suspect shooter, 6 total injured, and 2 deceased. Those who died were not students, but no other identifier shared. Suspected shooter used his mother's former service weapon she had with the Leon County Sheriff's department. The mother is still a deputy.

Shooter at FSU was engaged by police, did not comply with orders, and was shot, according to Tallahassee PD.

Tragic update to the shooting we have been following at Florida State University. 5 people hospitalized and two dead. Officials say the shooting suspect is a FSU student and son of a local sheriff's deputy.
