In Mexican Culture, spirits of the dead are honored and celebrated on November 1st and 2nd for the holiday called 𝐃í𝐚 𝐃𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐬 𝐌𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐬. The holiday dates back to more than 3,000 years ago when the Olmecs, Toltecs, Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Maya, and Aztecs honored death.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Machado (MAAM 2016). John had a strong passion for arts education and in 2016 founded the nonprofit organization The Arts Area, serving as CEO and President of the Board. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Students enrolled in Public Art took a tour of LA Metro's Art! The class began at Union Station to meet Metro Art's Director of Public Art. Next, they went Grand Ave Arts Station to see 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙘, and ended the day in Little Tokyo to meet artist Sonia Romero.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a 5 day celebration in Hindu culture that symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance." This year's Diwali is taking place from November 10th to November 15th!

Susan Gray's Public Art class toured the Public Art in West Hollywood! The class met with Marcus Mitchel, Public Art Administrator for the city of WeHo where hethen led the class to see a few artworks that are part of the Moving Image Media Art Program (MIMA).

Susan Gray's Public Art class went LAX! The class met with Sarah Cifarelli, Director of LAX Art Program who gave the class a tour of the Art in various Terminals and she shared some background on the artists in residence.

Arts Management students that completed Jean Miao's Practicum course this semester presented their results at Boston Court Pasadena over the weekend! Students used PechaKucha style presentations to showcase the consulting projects.

The Art Department had their final group exhibition of the semester! Artists in Rachel Lachowicz's Installation course presented "Push Back." Among those who presented work are Dual-Arts Management and MFA candidates, Reina Alvarez (MAAM 2023), Connie Mendoza, and Rebeca Soto.
