@caudatejake

I travel the world to not only see wildlife, but to experience other cultures and share it with everyone around me. I’m a salamander guy but enjoy all.

Blue-striped Ribbon Snakes only occur along FL’s NW Gulf Coast in the Big Bend Karst region where lowland hammocks and flatwoods meet a vast network of swamps, rivers and streams. During the last interglacial period, this area was completely submerged.

Another day another brewery. This "nano" brewery in DuBois had a couple great beers. A really good milkshake IPA that was lighter on the lactose and mild grapefruit flavor. Now to tipsily hike for herps.

As I sit at home under an asphyxiating heat dome that envelopes my herping hiatus bubble, I have to remember to take time for the critters that call my home, their home. This Southern Toad sits under my porch light every night to feast of on night-flying insects.

A couple of months ago I spent a long day in search of the lesser known, and rarely encountered, Dunes Sagebrush Lizard (Sceloporus arenicolus) with an old friend in the Permian Basin. After hours of hiking in the dunes they call home, we found this male in a shrub near the car.

Way up in the northern reaches of the midwest the maple toad’s (Canadian toad’s) range creeps southward. I had ideal weather this morning for these warty anurans in Minnesota and North Dakota.

This is, what used to be considered, Rana pipiens burnsi; a variation of the northern leopard frog that has blotches on the hind/forelegs and nearly no dorsal markings.

Going to the UK I knew I wanted to see this snake above all others. Walking a nice heathland in southern Britain resulted in 3 basking gravid female Adders.

The Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus) is one of three native salamanders in the UK. When found outside the breeding season, the males lack the fancy, frilly dorsal crest for which their common and specific names derive.
