Mary Queen of Scots returned to Scotland on this day in 1561 after spending 13 years in France. This silver testoon coin was minted soon after her return home. This specimen from the Hunterian collection is one of the best preserved in existence.

Another favourite style of mine and here a rarity of a survival, an early #1790s ribbed silk caraco jacket. It is short and might have been described, a little hysterically at the time, as mannish. It is brilliant and beautiful. Sold via KerryTaylorAuctions #fashionhistory

Up there with the wonkiest features in the Hall… the doorway between the Red Room and Marble Room has now been carefully supported! 😊 It was still structurally moving, but don’t worry, we’ve kept its wonderfully crooked character!

For a sunny #FindsFriday a lovely pair of ancient Egyptian ‘flip-flops’ still looking remarkably wearable after 3,400 years! Found in 1905 in the tomb of Yuya and Thuya in the Valley of the Kings. Egyptian Museum, Cairo 📷 by me #Archaeology
