Sink holes and drainage. This is a large painting, 120x120cm, inspired by my daughter who just got her ticket and is now a qualified and licensed plumber. 😊 #contemporaryart

100heads no 39 - Catherine. A self portrait, well…I’m painting another one of my good side which I’m still working on, and this is my other side, painted entirely with gesso on board. #selfie #painting

Pallet knife study in acrylics. A fun tool to use and a little bit tricky. Like I actually had to turn the painting on its side and upside down to manoeuvre the knife to get a suitable mark. I never need to do that when using a brush. Something to practice. #acrylicpainting

Continuing with the pallet knife exploration in acrylics. I’m using a gloss gel medium so it dries with a lovely gloss finish. I’ll try using mat medium gel next to compare the finish. Instead of painting the entire ground with colour like my cupcake, this time I drew out the

ā€œFinish somethingā€ was the last thing written on today’s list. So I picked this up from my pile of unfinished small works, and now I reckon I’m done with it 😊 …maybe a few touch ups. #painting #art

Pallet knife pear. I made the tabletop too dark on this one so I layered, using pallet knife, a lighter colour over the top. Pallet knife over pallet knife, which I’ve not done before, and would say is a ā€œnoā€, but it did leave some interesting effects.

This is my good side painted entirely in gesso. I like the matte finish of gesso, so I’ll leave this one as is, but I’m wanting to try varnishing a gesso work and then putting a cold wax varnish over the top. I tried this with one of my Frida’s, and it looks fabulous except

The boys. This one’s a commissioned portrait. Painted in acrylics from a photo I needed to alter to remove some people standing between and in front of, and invent a background that suited. Most artists these days (including me) use photoshop or similar for this kind of thing,

Less structured but same idea as the previous painting. What I’m working towards is a body of work that fits the ā€œnon representational abstractā€ category, for a July 2026 exhibition at Gallery M. I googled what it means to see if I’m on the right track: ā€œNon-representational

Ear study in my journal, in oils. Preparation for the first lesson of my facial features short course. I haven’t touched oils for a few months so it’s good to get them out and give them a dust off, planning the process I want to show for the first lesson. Noticing my pallet

Oil study in my journal, preparation for the second lesson of my facial features short course. Nose and mouth together. For this skin I swapped the cerulean blue for Viridian green and omitted the black. I still like my three reds (burnt Sienna I’m counting as a red) and

Lesson prep study in my journal - the third lesson of facial features in oils is eyes. I’d already decided we’d better do eyes over two lessons, so tomorrow I’m thinking we could tonally draw with paint a few pairs of eyes from different perspectives, and then paint in one eye,

100heads no 42 - Rowan. This one is in oils and is doubling up as a lesson prep for my celebrity alla Prima in oils workshop, scheduled for this weekend. I’m also playing with composition. My usual style is to have lots of subject and less space around, but now I want to

100 heads no 43 - Grace. I wanted to use up the oil paint leftover on my pallet from Rowan, so I did this little oil study on this pre painted in acrylic coloured ground, then cleaned my pallet ready for tomorrow’s workshop . I’ve got six pallets, 3 glass and three white

Lesson prep for tomorrow’s workshop with a class of yr 11s. The class is studying portraiture this term, and teacher asked me if I could put something together that addresses painting portrait skin tones in acrylics. #ArtistOnTwitter

I’m doing Louise Fletcher’s creative reset and part of the first task is 3 - 15 minute paintings using a limited pallet of 3 primaries black and white. Started with the one on the left and finished with the one on the right, and the middle one is painted in a coloured ground
