This is devastating. And BBC, stop framing these as 'protests' - unprovoked racist violence targeting people who have lived and worked in Belfast for years.

I donated to this fundraiser in memory of my mum, who would have been so horrified by this racist violence on the streets of Belfast. Please consider donating to this or other fundraisers to support those targeted by far-right violence.

Saw #KneecapMovie - brilliant. A true Belfast film: filthy and funny, with a lot to say about post-Troubles trauma. The lads hold their own against Michael Fassbender, and there's also a perfectly placed Michael Collins joke

Leaving Venezia and a sighting of Gaga at the airport, preceded by two motorboats worth of cases. Who said stars were relatable? Also some Exquisite Venetian art

I really enjoyed this study of Violet Gibson, the Anglo-Irish aristocrat who attempted to kill Mussolini in 1926. Not only insightful about her life, connections to Irish nationalism, and sad institutionalisation, but a good cultural history of fascism. 9/10, no notes

It can feel like you spend six years writing a book and then it comes out and disappears into the ether. So if anyone would like a copy to review, or would like me to come and talk about it, even on Zoom, get in touch. bloomsbury.com/uk/nonprofessi…

So this is happening, somewhat belatedly, Thursday. All welcome if you fancy free Prosecco and some yarns about the bad old days of Italian studies..😀
