Rock Stars among the stars! During the course of our survey we run into several thousands of known objects each night. These are asteroids Pink Floyd, Ledzeppelin and Freddiemercury captured with our 1.5m telescope on Mt. Lemmon.

Skywatching Tip: #CometLeonard, discovered by Catalina Sky Survey member Greg Leonard while searching for near-Earth objects for NASA, is predicted to peak at a brightness that will probably require binoculars to spot it. See when and where to look up: solarsystem.nasa.gov/skywatching/wh…

Here at NASA, we're on the job to find & track near-Earth objects…but have you ever wondered WHERE the known objects are? Through a new 3D real-time visualization tool, you can now explore asteroids and comets that approach Earth’s orbital neighborhood: go.nasa.gov/3oGKo71

2021 has been a great year for Planetary Defense. Some highlights include the launch of the Dart mission and reaching 3.000 near-Earth asteroid discoveries in one year by the Planetary Defense community. CSS found 1.403 NEAs in 2021. Here is to an even better 2022!

Today's look at the WGSBN Bulletin gives us many asteroids named for many great people. One of which being asteroid number 25589 for Danica McKellar an amazing actress and author helping to bring women to STEM and fun to mathematics check it out at wgsbn-iau.org V2#7

Today we call your attention to the WGSBN bulletin which features asteroid number 47708 named after Jim Hamilton, who was known for curating an email newsletter for Astrophotography before his passing in 2021. You can find the original citation at wgsbn-iau.org/files/Bulletin…

Last night we were able to capture this fireball on our sky cams, a small object like this poses no threat to Earth. We still love to see them though!

This morning at 8:26:59 UT a #asteroid disintegrated over the city of Brantford Ontario. The object (2022 WJ1) was 1m in size & caused no reported damage. Discovered by CSS observer David Rankin, it was quickly identified as a small & harmless impactor by #NASA's CNEOS

BIG NEWS! CSS observer Jacqueline Fazekas has just discovered a small meteoroid that will harmlessly impact with Earth's atmosphere in about 8 hours over the Western Pacific. The object (called CAQTDL2) is small, a few feet in diameter. Attached are the discovery images.
