PSA: if you’re only focusing on how foods impact your blood sugars then you didn’t understand the assignment. Movement, sleep, hydration, stress, and hormones all influence blood sugar control.

FYI- being in a larger body doesn’t mean you eat unhealthy, will have gestational diabetes, or have a complicated pregnancy or birth.

Truth: disordered eating in pregnancy is more common than gestational diabetes. Just like GDM, disordered eating doesn’t have a “look”, so if we are screening for one of these, shouldn’t we be screening for the other?

If you just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and it’s days before you meet with a dietitian or MFM, stop and read this. You don’t need to eliminate carbs. You did not cause this. You are probably doing a lot of great things for your health already.

Reminder to all the infant and toddler moms out there- If you are feeding your child, you need to also be feeding yourself. We can’t show up for them if we don’t show up for ourselves.

Seeing elevated post-meal blood sugars or struggling with insulin resistance? I’ve got a trick for you 👇 Have a serving of veggies and protein BEFORE you eat your carbs. This helps decrease glucose spikes, provides more stable energy, and helps get in more nutrients!

Fruits to avoid if you have gestational diabetes: 🍉NONE! 🍑 Seriously 🍇 Even the “sugar bomb” fruits All fruits can be enjoyed with GDM. Embrace summer fruit season 😘

Reasons your fasting blood sugar might be high in pregnancy: - too carb-restricted during the day - sleep habits are all over the place - pain is limiting your mobility - constant stress about GDM - your diet is falling short on protein, fiber, and fat

Things my pregnant clients will never hear me say: You shouldn’t ever have dessert Don’t have more than 2 snacks/day You really need to watch your calories You’re gaining too much weight Can’t you just exercise more?

Gestational diabetes is a state of carbohydrate intolerance. But that doesn’t have to mean complete carbohydrate avoidance. There’s a difference.
