my new post covers how to get started with chaos experiments without having to larp as sysadmin, disrupt your users, or piss off your execs ✨fastly.com/blog/chaotic-g… it includes a js code example that verifies super basic security assumptions as a starting point 4 ur chaos magic

The React vs LV thread is really a distributed systems debate. There are decades of research on state magement and data consistency that has gone into Erlang. Elixir is leveraging Erlang. Phoenix is leveraging Elixir. LiveView is leveraging Phoenix. Good primitives matter.

"Might ecosystems function more like aimless wanderers than like maturing superorganisms or drunken men? Might they simply change direction in reaction to chance occurrences? Again we offer the usual ecologist's answer to such a question: it depends." -Dave Jacke

AI just told me to add a wildcard to a domain in my /etc/hosts file. If this tech gets layered into gmaps, I'll surely end up in a river.

here’s the pull quote from our response to Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s RFI in November 2023 I’ve long cautioned that we overlook systemic risk engendered by commercial security software, but will 100% admit that today’s incident transcends even what I expected in terms of impact

SRE crowd: If we don't control the narrative, this could be the event that leads to Federal regulation of uptime. None of us want that, and it won't actually improve uptime. It will create bureaucracy and make more people miserable.

Chaos Engineering exists for the purpose of detecting, understanding, and preventing the kind of outage we saw with CrowdStrike this morning. "If service X is down, do customers still have a good time?" Chaos Engineering is something we can choose to invest in.

Shoutout to Samuel Arbesman and his piece in The Atlantic. I love this sentiment: "Contending with these realities requires some epistemological humility: There are limits to what we can know about how and when our technologies will fail." -- theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

I tell people I store my encrypted vault distributed in TXT records of DNS and they act all horrified, but how is that worse than blockchain?

Deadpool & Wolverine raised more ($780M) than Kamala ($310M) and Trump ($137M) combined in July. I know who I'm voting for. *snikt* Ryan Reynolds, Mr President.

Gil Tene Curious if you have any opinions about JMeter based perf testing? Some say if you use a thread per user you “fix” the coordinated omission problem but to me that may reduce the amount of accidental coordination inside the JMeter but it doesn’t magically fix all?

Kelly Sommers My general view is that jmeter is a great generator of load, but a not so good measurer of latency. Its a good and rich tool for stressing system. Using it in conjunction with some other tool that sends requests into those stressed systems and measures latency correctly works.

people nowadays forget that before giving a public presentation, we used to pray to Pasithea, daughter of Dionysus, and it shows
