Iโ€™m sure this problem will be solved by a different person who has spent decades climbing the civil service hierarchy.

Respecting dress codes is a basic sign of humility and respect. It says, "I do not consider my personal comfort more important than your rules". I would remove my shoes entering a mosque, or cover my head in a synagogue - not out of belief, but out of respect for others.

The trade off is that landlords will be much more cautious about whom they rent to. Expect much more stringent vetting of tenants.

I've heard Marc Warner talk about it before at Looking for Growth, but hearing again about the government forcing the destruction of an existing biosecurity early warning system, in order to have fair procurement, is the single most radicalising thing about state capacity I've ever heard

The government's Renters' Rights Bill looks like it will be a catastrophe, inadvertently introducing rent controls and reducing the supply of housing even more. It is the clearest evidence that the whole British state that has brought it about is completely broken: โ€ข Written

I'm glad we all agree that unnecessary admin and paperwork are a blight on society, can we have a chat about the length of the UK tax code now

The answer: terraform the interior of Australia! Imagine how great Australia would be if it had Mediterranean Sea v 2.0.

"In the past, the UK has only ever been able to build at the requisite speed when councils .... have done a big chunk of the building." Why do people still make this claim when there is well publicised empirical evidence showing that it's complete nonsense.
