Often, the biggest expense is not the provision of library services, but the cost of the buildings they are housed in. Libraries are housed in much loved but inefficient buildings and are a real headache for local authorities. National data and innovative solutions are needed.

It was a privilege to attend the new Mayor of Kirklees' civic dinner. Nosheen Dad is an inspirational woman. The youngest Mayor of Kirklees, the first British Muslim and woman of colour to be the first citizen of Kirklees. Her sister is my friend, ex colleague and soul mate.

Watching the rioting from all over the country, I'm left wondering how people get so much hate in their hearts. Jo Cox (who died outside one of my libraries at the time) said, 'We are far more united, and have far more in common than that which divides us'.

I'm so disappointed. I've been at work for 4 hours now, and no middle aged balding bloke has honoured me with his sexual innuendo. On a more serious note, it's not OK to make us feel uncomfortable just to satisfy your egos, and it's not just banter, but you know that, don't you?
