No 1.Housing - main issues clients struggling to afford their rent due to increases especially in the private rented sector, particularly amid the freeze in LHA. Many mention increased repossessions and evictions, lack of availability of affordable housing, and disrepair issues.

Proud to be helping the next generation of law academics who are teaching for the first time! Please share it amongst your networks. This is the culmination of such a wonderful project with Arwen Joyce and Charlotte Mills trying to replicate the peer support we offered each other

📣Today I have issued a JR claim against the SSHD challenging her newly-adopted practice of giving ~7 days' notice of eviction to new refugees after their asylum claim has been granted, instead of the 28 days that used to be given. 🧵

"DLUHC statistics show that 10,950 ‘out of area’ placements were made in 2022/23, however results of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests submitted to English local authorities during our research found the real figure to be over 36,000." Concerning and important research...

Sigh of relief is much smaller seeing the confirmation from the OBR that LHA will be re-frozen again from 2025-26. Not having LHA increase in line with private rents erodes the value of the benefit - it means low income renters CANNOT afford their rents and increases hardship.

We won!! The UK Government will finally unfreeze housing benefit. This will prevent and end the homelessness of tens of thousands of people across Great Britain. You played a huge role in this. This would not have happened without your actions – THANK YOU. People power works!

Alongside the news that mortality statistics for people experiencing rough sleeping may be abolished, it is worth noting that government statistics on temporary accommodation in England have not been released since last June.

ONS may stop publishing mortality data on homeless people theguardian.com/society/2024/j… Same story covered by the FT in the Guardian, you cannot erase social problems by ceasing to officially record them and while the statisitics are not perfect, they keep attention on this issue
