At kickoff, Miriam Greenberg says 'we can't automate our way to justice' - good reminder of the importance of the people behind the scenes who produce the numbers.

I know academics like to say/write 'utilize,' but can we stop doing it?

'Use' is perfectly fine 99.9% of the time. More syllables does not make for more compelling thinking/writing/speaking.

I love that Kristi Noem's entire defense is just naming other animals she killed. In two days, she's going to be like 'Listen, I invented the penguin-guillotine and I'm goddamn proud of it.'

I spoke with Leila Fadel on NPR's Morning Edition this morning about campus protesters and their demands for universities to divest their endowments from companies that have ties to Israel until Israel and Hamas agree to a ceasefire and peace in Gaza.

Important to note (as others have mentioned) that a 26% success rate is not necessarily a bad thing! It depends on the counterfactual: what % of interventions with no prior evidence succeed? And what % of interventions commit to being rigorously evaluated in the first place?

A new Annenberg Institute at Brown working paper dispels the myth that teachers miss work more frequently than other college-educated workers. It finds that teachers were more likely to attend work even when an absence was justified. bit.ly/4dc9JwY

I've gotten some questions about why Northwood students walked out yesterday & what the challenges are. Like so many complex policy issues, it requires context if you haven't been following for years. So I will try to provide some! Sorry this is long.
