One of our P1 learners lost a tooth last week. 🦷 This led to lots of curiosity about the Tooth Fairy - where do they take the teeth and what happens to them? Before we knew it, a lot of letters were written. With added sparkles of course! #playistheway #childledlearning

Our learners had an absolute blast at the beach today. 🌊 What an incredibly rich learning environment - so many opportunities to be curious and explore. We made sure to only leave our footprints behind, as well as some beautiful transient art. #thecanaanlaneway

Primary 2 were ‘Kapla crazy’ last week! It was wonderful to step back and observe the team work as learners attempted to build ‘the tallest tower in the world!’ And look at the creativity from other learners as they created a whole fleet of boats. #thecanaanlaneway

Our early level learners have been exploring the mud kitchen this week. ‘I’m making chocolate soup! Would you like some?’ ‘I’m making a magic cake, it can turn you into a fairy!’ A great opportunity for sensory play, with learners to using their imagination and collaborating.

Primary 1 learners have been using their fine motor and creativity skills. ‘I made a purse, it’s got coins inside and a bit for my bus pass - look!’ Such wonderful ingenuity was noticed and inspired other learners to get crafty! #thecanaanlaneway

This afternoon we had a brilliant training session for the staff team from Learning Through Landscapes. We got so many ideas for developing our practice with loose parts 🙌 And we had the opportunity to be creative - can you guess what we were making? #thecanaanlaneway

P3 learners worked in trios to use the loose parts to create characters and scenes from ‘Sharing a Shell’. We observed our learners communicating their ideas, agreeing a plan, using their imaginations and adapting their designs. #loosepartsplay #thecanaanlaneway

Inspired by our Fairyland Quest, P2 have been exploring fairytale settings and the use of descriptive language. Learners were then inspired to create maps and wanted posters, and to perform dramatic shows set in ‘spooky’ forests! #thecanaanlaneway #childledlearning

The P3 team observed what happened when there was an inviting yet ‘empty’ space in the play provision. Inspired by their Quest, learners worked collaboratively to create a fabulous fairy castle 🏰 to use for role play and retelling stories. #thecanaanlaneway #playistheway

P1 learners role played every step of the baking process in the mud kitchen. weighing and pouring ⚖️ to mixing and mashing 🥣 adding some garnish 🍃 and into the oven! 🔥 Wonderful to observe the communication and collaboration 🙌 #thecanaanlaneway

One of our P3 learners came up with an ingenious creation and we soon had a whole crew of ‘spidies’! Soon they were using measuring tapes to see how far they could ping their band and discussing how to get the best trajectory. #thecanaanlaneway #playistheway
