A stormy but ultimately revealing and dare I say even hopeful meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury and inclusive groups this afternoon. It is clear he wants to bring in the agreed standalone blessings straight away, and a path to do that is now emerging. 1/2

There is also a genuine determination to bring in the Pastoral Guidance - allowing both sex and marriage for clergy - as close to immediately as possible. And finally, there is a clear aim to stop talking blessings and start bringing marriage as soon as the next Synod. 2/2

Facebook reminds me via the below photo that it was 7yrs ago today that we managed to not take note of the Bishops report, that led ultimately, to what became LLF. It felt huge, these votes always do, and yet... Here we are...still. Slow work.

Devastated to hear of the sudden death of our dear friend and ally, Bishop Alan Wilson. An unfailing and unequivocal supporter of equal rights in the C of E. May he rest in peace and rise in glory, and may God sustain his family and all who mourn his untimely death.

Alan was the independent mind/voice in CofE episcopate. His loss is huge and will be widely felt. He was a person of great integrity, extraordinary intellect, enormous compassion, outspoken, brave, wickedly funny, courageous, kind; a huge support to so many. We loved him so much.

This #Synod, we ask all members and those following the proceedings to talk about LGBTQ+ 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 when you talk about Living in Love and Faith. ‘The prayers’, ‘the process’ - even ‘llf’ - have become euphemisms which dehumanise the conversation.

1/2 - Same-sex couples already in civil partnerships or civil marriages, or who have sealed a covenanted friendship, can now be offered Prayers of Love and Faith at Canterbury Cathedral, following a unanimous decision by the Dean and governing Chapter.
