It's #TankTuesday - moving an Armoured Brigade, overnight, side lights only, on unfamiliar mountain roads, with 582 vehicles, at 8 'miles in the hour', arriving and deploying before dawn. In radio silence. That's an under appreciated staff work skill. #TunisianCampaign

During our visit to Arezzo, I visited the five men of 3Bn #welshguards who ‘stayed in Italy’ at CWGC Arezzo. One of them was Sjt Cliff Evans. I’ve learned a lot more about him of late as my research for the Forgotten Fighting Third has deepened 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💂🇮🇹 bit.ly/3Pt2y8Z

Several weeks ago now … but had another highly enjoyable, rewarding and productive visit to the #WelshGuards archive at Regimental Headquarters. My forthcoming book, The Forgotten Fighting Third: The Welsh Guards in Italy 1944-45, is coming on in leaps and bounds now …

I’ll remember the men of 3WG today who were killed,wounded or forever scarred by the events of 11/02/44,81 years ago today, at Monte Cerasola,Italy. Lt. Andrew Gibson-Watt recounted that: “Cerasola lived in everyone's memories as the hardest and most unpleasant experience ever”
