Having seen the short sightedness in politics, I agree fixed 4yr terms are needed. But this requires a referendum. In the meantime we could legislate an election date for fixed 3yr terms. Endless speculation re election date is ridiculous & unproductive news.com.au/national/feder…

At 7.02pm on the #BBL broadcast Channel 7 crossed to cover a Gold Coast horse race, preceded by a live odds update. All in a family friendly time for a broadcast of a family friendly sports product. It’s pathetic. We must reign in the cooption of Aussie sport by sports betting!

It is unconscionable that an organisation established for the welfare of #veterans now preys upon veterans with their addictive poker machines. A 2023 study* found that 43.9% of veterans that reported 'problem gambling' experienced suicidal ideation. #PutPokiesInTheirPlace

This is great news! While there are many more reforms that must happen to reel in the epidemic of harm this parasitic industry causes, this is a great step. Well done ⁦Chris Minns⁩ ⁦⁦⁦⁦and your government! smh.com.au/politics/nsw/t…

My interview with Chris Bath on ABC Sydney Drive yesterday about the banning of gambling advertising on Transport NSW buses, trains & billboards (starts at 1:11:10). It’s welcome & a good start, but we need to #EndGamblingAds on our TVs & devices as well abc.net.au/listen/program…

Urged on by Depeche Mode’s classic, ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ on my 80’s playlist I came to the stark realisation I dance like Donald Trump. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

It’s been more than 19 months since the Murphy inquiry handed down its 31 unanimous recommendations to reform online gambling. All we’ve had since is repeated promises the government will respond ‘soon’. And now it seems not even that will happen. 😡 smh.com.au/politics/feder…

Appalling decision by the PM. He has denied, delayed, and now decided to do nothing. He has caved to lobbying from the gambling industry, and it’s our young people who will pay the price. smh.com.au/politics/feder…

The government can move quickly in seeking to protect our kids from the worst impacts of social media platforms, but are paralysed by inaction when it comes the rapacious influence of online betting companies on those same kids. 🤷‍♂️😡

An exchange that makes apparent what so often is occluded: the degree to which many arguments over political values are sublimated theology. The roots of what divides the left from the right invariably turn out to be disagreements over which particular Bible verse to emphasise

A consistent theme running through the Scriptures is that God judges empires—Egypt (Ex 3:14–20), Babylon (Dan 4:27), and Rome (Rev 18:11–13)—in part on how they treat the most vulnerable. God's opinion has not changed. Be careful how you discuss God, his word, and his character.

Here’s a potentially worrying thought for contemporary evangelicals: If the gospel we preach doesn’t include the gospel Jesus himself preached (Matt 4:23, 9:35; Mark 1:14–15, 8:35; Luke 4:18, 4:43, 8:1), are we preaching the real gospel?
