Come work with us in Taupō maintaining the GeoNet monitoring network! New full-time position involving plenty of hands-on fieldwork around New Zealand. Image: Me fixing one of the Tongariro/Ruapehu volcano monitoring cameras. Link to job description here: bit.ly/3zr6LS5

Thanks everyone who joined the first social run this morning 💪 We’re planning another run on Thursday evening (after posters) for the night owls and those staying too far out to get in and out in the morning 🌋 IAVCEI-NZ

Huge thanks to GNS Science Te Pū Ao for some exciting pre-#iavcei2023 field work in #Tongariro. It was fascinating to learn first-hand about the volcanic monitoring systems used there while assisting Cam Asher with some essential maintenance.

Out on Lake Rotokawa today, finally got the Fluxboat (#drone boat) running smoothly. It features a floating accumulation chamber measuring CO2 flux coming off the lake, while reducing the time required for us to be in the danger zone of hot, acidic volcanic or geothermal lakes

Spotted during my volcano duty checks today - looks like the GeoNet cameras picked up the #aurora last night! Check out the view over Tongariro - thanks Cam Asher for putting the video together.

After many many hours of hard work, not just from myself, I'm stoked that Ruapehu now has a complete ring of SO2 gas flux monitoring stations (scanning DOAS) as the third #ruapehu site at #turoa skifield became fully operational this afternoon (It's the little black tube!)

Our Ruapehu & Ngauruhoe webcam captured some wild winds in the Tongariro National Park yesterday. As well as an active volcanic area 🌋 the park is home to threatened species & fragile ecosystems. Check out Department of Conservation if you are planning on visiting & stick to the formed roads.
