Attended SoCal Flow and heard great talks, including one by Francisco Martinez-Hernandez (FranMar) of the Victoria Orphan & Manuel Martinez labs, on his work doing flow cytometry & sorting of marine viruses at Universidad de Alicante UA & Caltech w/researcher Jamie C. Tijerina in our facility

I originally planned to do a 4-day data course this week. Instead, I went to San Diego to learn more about spectral cytometry, the new BD Biosciences S8 cell sorter, and do 2 experiments over the same 4 days. Def made the right choice changing plans 😎🧿

In a little bit of good news, last month I applied for a competitive scholarship to go to the 46th Annual Course in Cytometry and got it! I'm thankful for the opportunity to attend and looking forward to the course next month.

Our Scientific Researcher in the facility, Jamie C. Tijerina won a competitive scholarship to attend the 46th Annual Course in Flow Cytometry and is participating in lab sessions and lectures on various topics in #flowcytometry. Continuing education is important!

Caltech campus operations will be restricted on Mon, Aug 21 due to the storm. Only personnel supporting essential campus operations, including maintenance, custodial, grounds, utility, security, student housing and dining, & essential research activities should report onsite.

Our longtime director, Rochelle Diamond has retired from her role in the Flow Cytometry Facility. She will remain the Manager of the Rothenberg Lab, and will continue to advise as needed. Thank you for your years in service to us and the field of cytometry.

Caltech & the facility was well-represented at SoCal Flow this year, presenting on a Career Panel, and presenting a poster which won an Excellence in Cytometry award. It was a great conference and we look forward to attending again next year!

Representing at ISAC 2024. Mike worked on the SRL Recognition Program & presented facilities with their awards. Jamie presented a poster about small particle sorting, co-authored with Fran from the Orphan Lab, and she won travel awards from ISAC CYTO Women & BioLegend from Revvity

The facility was out here representing at the Caltech Division of BBE retreat at Zachari Dunes with two posters (only one is pictured), which led to good conversations with colleagues about possibilities for future experiments. Looking forward to the next retreat.
