By definition most people are mediocre. Therefore, all laws and regulations will, in the last instance, mostly be administered by mediocre people. This includes matters of life and death.

Is it against the Law for those who start wars in the Middle East to have a clear and obvious endpoint and a straightforward means of attaining to it?

A case could be made that sabotaging the the defensive capability of a nation at a time of heightened international tension exceeds the category of non-violent civil disobedience as it is usually understood.

There is a level of socially necessary repression of desires and appetites. A century ago it may be that there was too much such repression. Today there is certainly too little.

The late Leon Trotsky of dubious memory was very fond of the word 'epigones' and I begin to see its extreme usefulness as a descriptive term.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to turn around in a bookshop without tripping over piles of books telling the untold/hidden/forgotten stories of women. It may be a long overdue course correction but it is getting rather samey.

If the great parties of State deliver year after year of chaotic rudderless government who can blame the voters for decisively turning away from them?

Only a multi-generational extended family whose members live and work in close proximity to each other could provide the kind of care necessary. And we have an economic model that prioritises a highly mobile workforce with minimal domestic commitments. Something has to give.

It takes decades to bring about a situation where thousands of nice middle-class English boys and girls chant 'Death to..' while thousands of others passively stand by. Not so much a moral decline as a near total moral corruption.

For George Orwell one of the quintessential features of British life was a widespread attachment to common decency. Those who chant for the deaths of their enemies or who, after calm reflection, justify such chants, have ceased to practise or to love common decency.

A criminal conviction based entirely on circumstantial evidence *might* be sound enough. But it isn't the strongest of all possible foundations. It only requires an hitherto unconsidered or unknown circumstance to be taken into consideration to radically change things.

The "principle of consent" is not as straightforward in practice as it is in theory especially so when emotional attachments between men and women are part of the mix. Which is why for centuries the principles of morality were applied as the standard, not the principle of consent

The early feminist slogan "We want bread – and roses, too" took into account that the essential needs of women include both those which are the same as and those which are different from those of men. Later feminists dropped the roses half of the equation which was a great error.

Those fondly remembered times when omnishambles was an occasional episode in the life of a government not its permanent state seem so long ago now.

Which political parties with members in the London Assembly, the only place where the Mayor of London is competent to speak about, have specific policy proposals to roll back existing legal rights?

So long as they still use actual horses we should be alright. Ditching modern technology like locomotive engines is not such a big deal.

The occasions upon which the far Left expresses sympathy and support for visible Christians are very carefully selected. The occasions upon which they express visceral hostility are rather more frequent. Why is that?

If you respond to a mass casualty event which is still unfolding by seizing the opportunity to attack your political opponents you should be aware that this indicates that your soul is fully under the control of the dark side.
