One the one hand making female Custodes are dumb. On the other hand, It fits with my head cannon that the Custodes were "The Men of Gold" and the Emperor repurposed their genetics from vat/clones (dim souls) to being made from men/women(strong souls) like the Space Marines.

I liked the 40k Secret Level episode. It attacks the "They shall know no fear" characteristic of Space Marines. They do have fear, and that was another lie/hope the Emperor stated, which chaos uses against his work.
