Some reasons from Teagasc why its so important that we use native species of Irish provenance in biodiversity schemes. We are currently importing trees from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 for the "Native Woodland Scheme" 🇮🇪 Its bad for biodiversity, risk of disease & pests, bad for jobs.

A White Blue-Bell, Bugle ( I think?), Louseworts and Wood Anemone. All seen flooring this may on our hill sheep farm. #farmlandbiodiversity

An Irish Hare grazing through an area on our sheep farm where we are controlling bracken dominance without chemical treatment. Great to see more plant cover this year and this hare is now a regular visitor to the site. #farmlandbiodiversity

Tadpoles this spring making use of a drian I slowed down the flow of water in. Frogs had never spawn here until now. #farmlandbiodiversity

Area of our farm we planted with a mix of native trees. Cherry, Birch, Hazel, Oak, Mountain Ash and blacktorn from local seed stock. #farmlandbiodiversity

We dont cut our hedhes and have areas of scrub on the farm that we retain. This ensures we have plenty of flowers for pollinators in spring and berries for birds in the winter. #farmlandbiodiversity

We sensitivly manage the Dry Heath habitats on our farm with our hill cheviot sheep. #farmlandbiodiversity
