Celebrating with fireworks at home tonight? Once you’re done, don’t just leave them on the ground. To dispose of your fireworks, submerge them in water & soak them overnight. Wrap the soaked fireworks in a plastic bag & throw them in the garbage: Mississauga.ca/fireworks

Good. And a reminder that we already have legislation on the books to deal with careless and reckless misuse of fireworks.

"The city received 79 fireworks-related complaints in 2024." And for this Cambridge might also ban the sale of fireworks? How many complaints about property taxes being too high? Can we ban those, too?? cambridgetoday.ca/local-news/cam…

“The problem isn’t fireworks,” Aleem Kanji, chief advocacy officer with the Canadian National Fireworks Association, said. “It’s illegal use and limited enforcement capacity as we heard from staff. A sales ban does not solve that.”

It’s always important to Be a Good Neighbour when using fireworks & follow local by laws. In Mississauga, that means only using fireworks at home on designated holidays from dusk until 11 p.m. Read more about Federal fireworks safety here: nationalfireworks.ca/wp-content/upl…

The public were shut out of Cambridge’s fireworks decision. People who signed up to speak to councillors are told to leave, and a decision to change timing of a vote is made without public discussion. That’s not good for democracy, Luisa D’Amato writes.
