Another serendipitous auction find - this time an embroidery marking the retirement of a Victorian relative, Samuel Bownes, from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway in 1910. It was made by his daughter, Anne, and carefully copies a retirement notice from The Manchester Evening

Pleased to report that I wasn’t arrested by the BT Police as I transported this (deceptively) heavy Underground sign on the Tube earlier. Lacks its original bronze frame, so if anyone has one I am, indeed, over your barrel price-wise #eastfinchley #ltroundel #railwayana

This has to be my favourite poster book cover, Art for All, published by London Transport in 1949. The book tied in with an exhibition of LT posters at the V&A Museum and included essays by London Transport’s Head of Publicity, Harold F. Hutchinson, and the lithographer Thomas E.
