This wildfire north of Silver Star, MT that ignited after the snowstorm is an example of how snow on the ground doesn't mean the fire season is over. Many fuels (brush, timber, grass, etc.) are dormant and very dry in the fall.

Coming back to Recreation.gov this season, you can purchase a permit to cut down a Christmas tree. Cutting down your own tree is the perfect way to create a memorable holiday experience, share a special tradition with family or friends, & help maintain a healthy forest.

Christmas Tree permits, (one permit allows for up to 3 trees to be harvested), are available on recreation.gov for use on the B-D. There is a processing fee of $2.50 but the permit itself is free.

Orange Hawkweed is a newer weed on our Forest. We could use your help in looking out for and reporting any populations you come across as you enjoy the Forest. Early detection and rapid response are key in preventing non-native Hawkweed from establishing itself on our landscape.
