This is just one of the three raised beds outside of Irvington House that will soon be turned into places to plant flowers, other crops, and signage. It may look bland now, but soon enough there will be thriving plants to give it more color.

Research shows spending some time outdoors helps with stress! Even just a view of natural areas from a window reduces stress levels significantly more than without that view. Taking a short, 10-15 minute walk in the park can make you feel much better after stressful activities!

Not only does buying/eating locally grown food have a plethora of environmental benefits, it is also better for your body. Since the nutrients in most fruits and vegetables begin to degrade within 24 hours of being picked, locally grown foods help you obtain more nutrients.

What do you know about coyotes? Did you know that they actually help maintain wildlife diversity? Become part of the Indy Wildlife Watch project through Zooniverse, so we can learn more about urban wildlife and start to end the stigma against these animals!

According to the EPA in 2017, the commercial and residential sector accounted for 12% of the fossil fuel emission into our atmosphere. Did you know Butler made a commitment to be carbon neutral by 2050? We're working to join hundreds of other colleges in fighting climate change.

Where can you spend time outdoors on Butler’s campus? Do homework in Holcomb Gardens behind Holcomb Observatory, hike through Newfields’ 100-Acre Woods for free, take a walk in Butler’s prairie located behind Gallahue, or volunteer on Butler’s CUE Farm!

Spending some time in this beautiful fall weather can lead to health benefits! Being outside can boost your energy, boost your immune system, increase your creativity, lower your stress, restore your attention span, and improve your sleep. Jump in the leaves!

Green spaces on a college campus benefits the students in ways other than serving as an aesthetic feature of the area. Green spaces are welcoming areas that encourage students to get outside and explore. Some professors even incorporate these spaces into their class. Get outside!

Julia Angstmann, the Director of the CUES, was recognized along with other faculty and staff for grant awards from this past year. Without funding like this, we wouldn't be able to support local sustainability and urban ecology projects.
