Sorry, Daniel. BlueSky is really nice and it's astonishing how much Musk throttles accounts here. The engagement I've gotten on BlueSky in a couple of weeks absolutely dwarfs this platform so it makes sense to go where my posts are seen.

I get asked in my workshop about how to handle late paying clients. It’s not easy & it depends on the relationship, but generally I give a pass the first time but if it happens again, I raise my fee for the next job. That’s my “late fee” approach & I’m okay if they go elsewhere.

Freelancers should have an idea on how to start each new year with a goal to move forward. A few ideas: 1. Diversify clients 2. Culling clients with bad contracts for those with better contracts 3. Raise rates consistent with inflation 4. Organize archive 5. Develop licensing đź’°

There is huge money at stake here which is why you see major photo archives and others suing for infringement. Not protecting your copyright is akin to having a store and just leaving every night without locking the door. Why would anyone do that? wired.com/story/ai-copyr…

The difference between freelance & employee is VERY clear. So, freelancers should do a realistic assessment for the coming year with the goal to cull clients with predatory Work For Hire contracts that take your copyright and replace them with publications that respect you.

Freelancers, as I've mentioned before, if you are an LLC and you don't fall within the exemptions (which is likely), you are required to file this new form. Deadline has been extended to Jan 13. cnbc.com/2024/12/26/tre…

If you consider moments in time when #photography was revolutionized, you'd be hard pressed not to put this day in 2007 at the top of the chart. 18 yrs ago today, Apple announced the iPhone which changed the way the world took, managed & shared photos. #shotoniphone

Their claim of Fair Use should fail because Fair Use is not a defense if the new work competes in the same market as the original. Open AI should legally gain access to "datasets" for which they have the rights and stop stealing. #copyright npr.org/2025/01/14/nx-…

Those who’ve been in the workshop know what I think about pros who forego insurance & launch a GoFundMe when (not if!) their gear is stolen. 🤦‍♂️ Hill & Usher Package Choice is my recommendation. Rates went up with Travelers as underwriter so they found an affordable option.

I often receive inquiries for help with various freelance issues such as contracts, licensing & especially infringement. As a business person who’s developed an expertise, I charge for services. So do plumbers, electricians & mechanics. Lol, please don’t ask for free services. 🙏

IF you still see these posts, please head over to BlueSky to follow me at tbfreelance. I'm barely ever posting here and have far more reach on BlueSky (which is awesome and reminds me of Twitter when it wasn't owned by a South African racist fond of Nazi salutes)

Ran into a former LA Times colleague. Apparently, the LAT offered another buyout in an effort to pare down an already pared down staff. When will it end? I know a lot of ppl, me included, who dropped their subscriptions when Dr. Pat Soon-Shiong started putting acting like Bezos.

My latest royalty breakdown for my book is in & it was a great quarter. I’m thrilled it helps freelancers understand that they run a BUSINESS! The book is recommended reading at a number of universities including RIT, Syracuse & more. #photography a.co/d/5ptU0FM
