The rise in alcohol-specific deaths in the UK has been particularly high among women, with a 91% increase from 2001-2022. Deaths among men have risen by 69% in this time. Far more men still die from alcohol, with a rate twice that of women.

The Alcohol Toolkit Study shows that higher risk drinking in England is still far higher than it was before the pandemic. We are already seeing the impact this is having on alcohol-specific deaths. Harm will continue to go up as long as the government continues to do nothing.

I condemn Israel’s actions which killed scores of innocent civilians who were only seeking shelter from this deadly conflict. There is no safe place in Gaza. This horror must stop.
