Another way to use the experience of parents to improve neonatal care Better Use of Data to improve parent Satisfaction (BUDS): protocol for a prospective before-and-after pilot study employing mixed methods to improve parent experience of neonatal care bmjpaedsopen.bmj.com/content/3/1/e0…

Thank you Chris for presenting results from Susanna Sakonidou process mapping at jENS Congress: joint European Neonatal Societies: neonatal parents want information to be more consistent and jargon free; there is a lack of regular information in written/electronic form in neonatal care @CLAHRC_NWL Bliss Baby Charity

Our work looking at outcomes of extremely preterm babies in relation to place of birth and early postnatal transfer is out today in The BMJ - Kjell Helenius, Neena Modi, using data held in the NNRD-UK bmj.com/content/367/bm… 1/10

With input from over 400 former patients, parents, nurses or allied therapists, doctors and researchers we have identified 12 critical outcomes that should be reported in all neonatal research fn.bmj.com/content/early/…

Categorising issues as “women’s” & “men’s” isn’t necessarily helpful; mostly these are societal issues which we should try & resolve together Prof Neena Modi ⁦Neena Modi⁩ Medical Women's Federation president speaking to ⁦Womanthology⁩ womanthology.co.uk/women-dont-bec…

1/ Which intervention should your NICU adopt to improve parent satisfaction? How will you measure this? What’s the best study design to trial parent-centred interventions in NICU? Our systematic review reveals huge variation in practice bmjpaedsopen.bmj.com/content/4/1/e0…

Susanna Sakonidou (@buds_study) 's Twitter Profile Photo

2/In 32 trials satisfaction was measured by 334 Qs in 29 surveys (only 6/29 fully validated). Only 5/32 studies reported involving parents in intervention design. Increased satisfaction was mostly reported after ‘parent involvement’ interventions. High risk of bias in all studies

3/How to choose an intervention for your NICU? Standardised, validated parent satisfaction measures are needed, as well as higher quality trials of parent experience, involving parents in intervention design National Institute for Health and Care Research Chris Gale James Webbe NNRD-UK Bliss Baby Charity NIHR ARC Northwest London

fn.bmj.com/content/early/… In 30-33 weekers early parenteral nutrition is associated with a significant decrease in mortality, but much higher rates of important neonatal morbidities (NEC, BPD and sepsis)
