Mateta is going to revert to lummox mode, isn’t he. Sarr looked far better. Doucoure a pleasant surprise - much more positive with the ball than I’ve ever seen. Delighted for Henderson. Not Mitchell’s greatest performance. Wharton majestic. A good point🔴🔵

On an otherwise nondescript Monday’s racing it was so wonderful to hear @huntycaller back in the commentary box after he’s gone through the most unimaginable suffering.

Obviously not the most crucial fixture or the greatest opposition but I really enjoyed that England performance, full of zip, purpose and guile. Little Gomes was terrific and there’s huge squad depth. Very encouraging.

The Guardian’s relentless anti-gambling campaign summed up by this ludicrous paragraph from Barney Ronay. It’s an insulting, inaccurate portrayal of the National Lottery’s clients. So boring.

Palace wrap: JP and then Hendo badly at fault for their first goal. Lacroix and Eddie made solid debuts. Munoz was annoying. Eze was quiet. Wharton is a truly world-class talent. Leicester not great but I can’t help but admire Vardy. We will be fine but need a win soon.

I know they don’t usually get injuries, but how did Arsenal missing one or two players today become the biggest news story since Covid?

Within a year the world of football will look back on Mateta’s purple patch and wonder how it happened. In other news, doubts increase about the effectiveness of Glasner’s formation. The wing backs work incredibly hard but don’t create enough and are often isolated.

I’m reading the new Champions League format is to blame for too many goals. I’m also reading the new Champions League is to blame for too few goals. The rush to find a narrative gets ever more laughable.
