Our #Pictureoftheweek shows a Flight Officer and Sergeant at Biggin Hill in October 1940. Ghosts of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force are thought to haunt Biggin Hill, with Vincent Square (near the A233) being the scene of such a haunting.

The Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) was founded in 1909. Some refused to take a salary, and many highly skilled volunteers willingly worked at a low rate of pay.  #EYAHeroes This scrapbook (Ref 686/1) features news cuttings and photographs documenting members' experiences.

This item is technically part of the Local Studies Collection but it’s too sweet not to show off. This #EYATiny copy of A Tale of old Beckenham, was published in 1884, It once belonged to J. Leech who placed a rather charming book plate inside the front cover.

For #EYAHuge we’ve picked the Kadwell Portfolio. Comparable to a giant scrapbook, it contains news articles, cartoons, drawings and write ups up about the people and places of Bromley. Here we see the page dedicated to Bromley Palace. Ref: P/180/28/13

Did you know there has been an M&S in Bromley for over 100 years? They first opened in Market Square before moving to the current location on the High Street in 1931. #EYAFashion

#EYAMythology made us think of Crofton Roman Villa in Orpington. Whilst we don’t hold any primary sources relating to it in our archival collection, we do hold the research of Local Historian Bill Morton who specialised in the Northeast of the Borough

This article from the Bromley Times in November 1979 wisely warns of the dangers posed by not playing #EYADisco records ‘softly’ We of course know that Mr Ratnesar was right to be concerned. Were you part of the ‘disco generation’? Where were the Discotheques in Bromley?

For #EYAanimals we are bringing you a unique view of the famous Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, taken from a mid 1980s planning document showing necessary repair works to be undertaken on the Dinosaurs (or ‘Monsters’ as they are referred to on the plan).

This December marks 91 years since the Commodore Theatre in Orpington opened. The occasion was marked with a special souvenir programme, pictured, that includes a wealth of information about the cinema. #PictureOfTheWeek

Our Search Room has been wonderfully decorated for Christmas. The finishing touch was this bauble from Preservation Equipment - PEL . It's made from archival box board, acid- and lignin-free!

Managed to scan the Peal Book of the Society of Bromley Youths (dating to 1773). Delighted with the quality and will be making them available in both soft and hard copy. Best thanks to Bromley Historic Collections for their help.

Picture of the week is our new temporary exhibition Winters in Bromley: The Season of Change, Community and Celebration. It explores the transformative spirit of winter in Bromley, from the influence of extreme weather to pantomime. Located on Level 1 of Bromley Central Library.
