More than ever before, next generation will be a test of brand power and value proposition. As exclusivity erodes and more games become multiplatform (in some cases, eventually, as is the case with certain PS titles), name recognition might matter more than anything else.

I’m not a “chicken little” kind of guy; I wait for the sky to fall before reacting to gaming news. The landscape is ever changing and the brands we loved as children and young adults are evolving to either gain or maintain relevance in the gaming space. We’ll see.

I used to think TB games were “niche” before being educated on the history of PS/Nintendo when I joined Gaming Twitter. Now, I don’t understand how a genre that carried the PS1/2 generations, among the most successful in history, can be considered niche. Recency bias, I think.

Since the SEGA Master System, I’ve always been attracted to games that include some semblance of real time action or competition. From Alex Kidd to Sonic, Shinobi to Bionic Commando, Streets of Rage to Double Dribble, Double Dragon to Strider, Joe Montana Football to NBA Live

In the PS1/2 era, I was playing Twisted Metal, Metal Gear, Marvel v Capcom, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and a ton of sports games. NHL ‘96 was goated! NBA Live ‘96 might be my favorite basketball game of all time. The memories are forever crystallized in my mind.

While I’m not in the market for this game, he brings up a great pt. Why don’t publications employ enough ppl to ensure that reviewed games can be played to completion? Part of the responsibility also falls on pubs/devs; review copies should be distributed as early as possible

Batman: Year One is a masterpiece. The writing was so well crafted that it felt like I was watching a gritty ‘90s era crime drama. It doesn’t skimp on exposition, introspection or compelling storytelling. Better than anything released in the Batman universe this decade, imo.
