Near GNW-Emily Carr Station, this birds-eye view shows the elevated guideway transitioning to underground tunnel as it approaches the station. Can you see the tunnel getting wider towards the right? This widening creates space for the centre platform in between the tracks.

At GNW-Emily Carr Station, workers are pouring concrete for the SkyTrain platform. When complete, people will wait here for the next train. Fun fact: Each Broadway Subway station will have one platform for trains going in both directions, located between the two tracks.

Crews at Arbutus Station are installing 2 ventilation fans. On the left, silencers have been added to the fan, which reduce noise and connect the fans to the ventilation system. Silencers will later be added to the fan on the right. Fun fact: each fan weighs about 10 tonnes!

Can you see the orange cover at Mount Pleasant Station, just below Broadway? This is a waterproofing layer that will help keep the future station dry. Fun fact: crews are installing more than 13,000 square meters of waterproofing for this station!

On September 20, the last segment of the underground roof at Oak-VGH Station was poured. Crews stamped a maple leaf into the concrete to mark this completion. 3 of 6 underground roofs have now been completed, including GNW-Emily Carr Station and Mount Pleasant Station.

Here at Oak-VGH Station, workers are installing rebar for the train platform. After the rebar is installed, concrete is poured to create a slab. The concrete has now been poured, completing this section for the train platform!

Crews at Broadway-City Hall Station are installing track switches. This area is called a crossover section, as trains can change tracks, crossing over from one track to another. Curious about how track switches work? Check out this post: ow.ly/qlao50WYWcY

Inside Arbutus Station, crews are building the concrete base for the SkyTrain tracks. Next, workers will install metal fasteners on the completed concrete base, which will hold the rail in place.

Here is a mini concrete truck at South Granville Station. Wonder why it must be a “mini”? This truck needs to be small enough to fit into the tunnels! It’s used to pour concrete for the track bases, and the tunnel walls and floors of the cross passages.

Did you know that the SkyTrain rail will be one long, continuous piece? During installation, each 400m segment is pulled into place by a speed swing machine. Once carefully aligned with the previous segment, crews weld the pieces together, joining them into one.

At GNW-Emily Carr Station, crews have completed this staircase that leads to the concourse level from the train platform. To construct these stairs, the concrete base is first made on site. Each individual step is built offsite and later installed.

This section of the Arbutus Station roof, between Cypress & Maple streets, is covered by a black waterproofing membrane that will keep the station dry. Crews are now placing gravel & soil in the area between the station roof & the street. This process is called backfilling.

Near Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station, a segment of rail is being pulled into the tunnels for installation. In total, 22 kilometres of rail will be installed along the Broadway Subway Project alignment. End to end, that is about the distance of a half marathon!
