Found a cool way to repurpose some old tech, side loaded an old version of Briar to run on my ancient q10 to make it a secure mobile messenger and it works pretty well paired with a battery powered travel router it's a neat little package #comms #secure #mobile #offgrid

Congrats to Yuanming Song on finding these vulnerabilities during his semester project making a “deep dive” on Briar’s cryptographic protocols.

Overall, we are happy to report that Briar had done a pretty good job in their crypto design. Disclosure was very smooth.

A nice open research challenge is to try to prove the security of Briar’s protocol stack. Tricky given the complex layering involved.

.Briar definitely deserves more attention from the research community. They are trying to do something quite challenging with secure ad hoc messaging.
