🚨Trump’s decision to shut down USAID has frozen critical work to deliver vital assistance around the globe, and put China in the driver’s seat. We’re at USAID HQ fighting back against Trump’s outrageous assault on dedicated USAID workers. Tune in now: x.com/i/broadcasts/1…

Elon: how much does one week of your private jet cost? More I'm sure than the 3 examples here (total: $150k). Gaslighting= focus on irrelevancies to conceal the big picture. Which is: Make room for a billionaire tax cut by cutting $ billions of food assistance & life-saving drugs

Musk reportedly spent $40M on #Superbowl ads calling #USAID wasteful. Here’s how we would’ve spent that $$: 🏈Purchased HIV treatment from U.S. pharma companies to keep 1M pp alive for 1 year. Tell Congress to #saveforeignaid and #standwithUSAID youtu.be/PqUESHfuO_8

Elon Musk reportedly spent $40M on #Superbowl ads calling #USAID wasteful. Here’s how USAID would’ve spent that $$: Bought 66,000 metric tons of crops from US farmers & shipped them overseas to feed 8 million people on the brink of famine #saveforeignaid youtu.be/PqUESHfuO_8

What is the glue that holds society together? Another example of entitlement, arrogance and ignorance - “justify their job duties to the this out-of-touch, privileged, unelected billionaire who has never performed one single hour of honest public service in his life.”

Decades of good intentions gone wrong helped fuel LA’s homelessness & affordable housing crisis. Recent efforts to address the crisis offer hope that progressive approaches to governance can become part of the solution. Introducing my new research project. workingwiththegrain.com/2025/04/16/fro…

An invitation from Elon Musk to 'change his mind' about the damage he has caused. How about 3 million additional deaths in Africa? livescience.com/health/hiv/nea… or perhaps saving lives in Africa doesn't count as 'a part that works......' (??)

Thanks Elon Musk - modernizing the federal govt's IT systems is a great contribution. If only Department of Government Efficiency had focused on this, instead of eliminating 'baby pandas' that saved millions of lives and were potent uses of US 'soft power'. (Science; food assistance; peacekeeping; PEPFAR.)

The combination of my new piece in the Los Angeles Times on efforts in LA to address homelessness, and its posting by UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs (where I now am part-time teaching faculty), signals some positive ways in which life has been moving on.

Good & bad news re homelessness in Los Angeles. Good news: Bold governance reforms provide a promising new platform. Bad news: Trump budget cuts could produce a homelessness tsunami. A trial by fire is coming. Will the reforms be up to the task ahead? workingwiththegrain.com/2025/10/01/hop…
