Q to Linguists (and esp semanticists): Which journal should we submit this to? We have a paper that describes a dataset of modal semantics in 24 languages. The meat of the paper is a description of the dataset (the data collection method; design/format of the dataset etc). 1/3

My family has been taken to Gaza. We don't know their medical condition, we know that if my uncle isn't released soon he could die, he has a degenerative disease and needs treatment. They are European citizens. I need anyone with any contacts to get in touch with me ASAP.

Let me dwell on the utterly mundane. My aunt and uncle's house always smelled of coffee. Tari is a person who roasts their own coffee. Lilach bakes these amazing semolina and dates cookies. That's what I am thinking about when they are being held in Gaza. Help us get them home.

How do you pronounce '#' in the context of trivalent semantics? I'm specifically interested in how you say it out loud, e.g. in a classroom with zoomer students, and in sentences like the following: - We use '#' for the third truth value. - Sentence S denotes '#' iff...

Related question: for folks who use '0' and '1' for falsity in truth, why not use '2' for the third truth value? (In class I use 'F', 'T', and '#' because I think it's easier/clearer. But if you're a numbers person, then I'd think '2' makes more sense than '#', like exit codes.)

My book with Jason Stanley, the Politics of Language, is out today! It's about how people make meaning, about how meaning resonates, and how we hide meaning in plain sight. We "hustle". Our hidden meanings hustle our friends towards us, and our enemies away.
