I don't think people realize that in important respects tariffs are now higher & more inflationary than what was announced on last Wednesday. Since then we've gone from 54% to 125% on China, our 3rd largest trading partner. That outweighs delaying the increases on 70+ others.

I have a new piece out today in The Conversation about Alaska LNG. I have more to say about this issue, but these are some of my high level thoughts for a national audience.

How many more wealthy households could Alaska attract if it cut it's state income tax? Maybe it could even establish a program to pay households to establish residency here?

ISER Professor Brett Watson was among the experts presenting on the problems with Cook Inlet natural gas supplies at a Commonwealth North event today. We need a multi-pronged solution to this critical problem, which is set to squeeze us in less than two years. #akleg

My favorite genre of panelist commentary: "The streets are full of $20 bills. To date, the (N=large) working groups/commissions/task forces we have assembled to figure out how to pick them up have failed, but task force N+1, with the 'right people' is really gonna crack this."

Today I got to celebrate my UAA tenure and promotion. Very grateful for friends, family, and my professional network for their support over the years.

I ran a non-incentivized double auction game for my class of 15 students this semester and the market converged to the equilibrium price and quantity within 5 minutes of trading.

Here are four graphics that show how much the PFD's purchasing power has changed over the years. UAA economist Brett Watson says they tell us "as much about how we think about inflation or the things that we buy as it does about the dividend itself." akpub.io/4nBbxVa

Starting to see the effects of deferred resignations finally showing in the UI claims data. Something that's interesting in the AK data, while Oct federal UI claims are higher than in the past several years, they are still a bit short of where thing were during the AK recession.
