Why do drivers complain about people riding bikes as though they are the ones in danger? With all the lecturing about ‘blowing through stop signs’ and wearing reflective clothing you’d never guess they were the ones protected by air bags and a thousand kilograms of steel.

Wandering through downtown Philadelphia, every so often you stumble across a narrow street from more than two centuries ago, lost to time in the shadows of large modern buildings. An incredible sense of place that no North American city would ever allow to be built today.

Fast and cheap way to narrow an intersection and increase pedestrian safety in New York. Some paint and a couple planters.

I have always loved this 1970’s Winnipeg strip mall. When commercial architecture mattered. Elegant brick curves with beautiful patterning. Diagonal cedar soffits. Nice lit sign boxes. Downspouts thoughtfully integrated into rounded brick corners, draining to landscape planters.
