Thanks Tyler McGinnis almost fell off my chair laughing: "A Rust-based rewrite of SQLite is either one of the most ambitious open-source projects of our time, or it’s the greatest nerd honeypot ever devised." However, I think it's just boring evolution.

Lenny Pruss TBH, I'd put my money on something new. Something strongly typed, that isn't verbose (context window), with proof-like qualities that something like Rust has. IMO, there's potential for innovation here. Similar to my belief that LLM should speak substrait, not SQL.

I think we need to pivot quickly to teaching core software engineering principles. As in software architecture and design. Like on a fast track. Including both university and coding camps. I think we can compress a lot (not all) of the base programming stuff and move right

Predicting the Future of Distributed Systems: • Databases are being decomposed • Object storage is becoming the database • Edge and cloud are becoming a continuum • Programming toolkits and operational models are ripe for disruption • This is not happening because

LLMs are more powerful, more dependable, more efficient, and more flexible when deployed as a component of a carefully designed system. New blog post: brooker.co.za/blog/2025/08/1…

If you don’t trust the intuitive systems thinkers in your organization to help draw abstractions and design software systems, you are likely deleting the wrong things when it comes to simplifying software design.
