79 years ago, a nuclear weapon devastated Hiroshima. But nuclear weapons, and the threat of their use, are not confined to history books. They represent a real and present danger. We must not forget the lessons of 6 August 1945.

Today at the Peace Memorial of Hiroshima, I join the world in remembering the lives lost in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.   We must remember the lessons of 6 August 1945. We must vow that the horrors of that day are never repeated.   We need disarmament now.

Congrats to the Chair of the #GGEPAROS and its members (with the help of UNODA Geneva and United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research) for the adoption of a substantive report by consensus last Friday! The report offers a long-overdue way forward for discussions on the prevention of an arms race in outer space.
