I really enjoyed presenting on crisis communication after a terror attack at a seminar in The Hague last week. It was organized by friend and colleague Wouter Jong at UniLeiden FGGA + NCTV . Topics included social media, victim support and AI.

Yesterday, the Mass Casualty Commission released its final report on the mass shooting in Nova Scotia in 2020. It consists of 7 volumes of reports. I was really impressed that its Executive Summary starts with 34 pages that commemmorates the victims. More info: masscasualtycommission.ca/final-report/

My US publisher Routledge Books is offering a 20% discount on all books for all of April.

I can really recommend Lucy Easthope’s memoir “When the Dust Settles.” Lucy - a world-leader in disaster recovery - gives insights into past disasters and offers personal and important advice for disaster recovery. A great read, Professor Lucy Easthope - a perfect book for Easter vacation.

Something to start your week. My latest #10minswith was a fascinating chat with Edward L. Conley who worked with FEMA for almost 30 years. Thanks for your time Ed. Find out what he had to say here: youtu.be/pWFXDpO_1Mg #crisiscomms #crisismanagement

In exactly a week, I will give a keynote presentation at the @EMPA_Conference in Brisbane. Looking forward to sharing knowledge and meeting great people from all over the world. I will also run a 3 hours' workshop on the aftermath of disasters. More info: empaaust.empa.org.au

Thanks to @EMPA_Conference for a great first day at the Australia’s Disaster & Emergency Communications Conference in Brisbane. I enjoyed being a keynote speaker, and the day’s presentations were all interesting. Topics included social capital, teams’ mental health and floods.

I really enjoyed presenting at Northeastern U. in Boston last week. My topic focused on crowd management, crisis communication and victim support, and we had an interesting discussion afterwards. Thanks to professor Daniel P. Aldrich urbanists.social/web/@dpaldrich for hosting.

My new book "Disaster Memorials and Monuments" was recently published by Routledge Books. Thanks to Professor Lucy Easthope , James E. Lukaszewski , Kate Brady and Jay D Aronson for endorsing it.
