Frances Tanzer will discuss her new book, Vanishing Vienna: Modernism, Philosemitism, and Jews in a Postwar City (University of Pennsylvania Press), which traces the reconstruction of Viennese culture from the 1938 German Anschluss through the early 1960s.

RIP to my PhD advisor and friend Anson Rabinbach (1945-2025). Born in the Bronx to Jewish socialist revolutionaries, he taught at Princeton for over 20 years. He passed away in Rome days after speaking about his own mentor George Mosse’s contributions to the history of fascism.

For anyone in Madison this summer: I'm looking forward to speaking about my new book, "Reinventing Protestant Germany," in conversation with Jonathan Pollack at Leopold's (Regent St.) on Aug. 26! tockify.com/leopoldsmadiso…

Many thanks to Emily Silk and Harvard University Press for their hard work on my first book, "Reinventing Protestant Germany," which officially appears today. It's a new take on West Germany's winding path toward postwar democracy, highlighting the ambivalent role of the Protestant Church.
