Pumpkinseed as piscivorous pond predators? Seems like it! Check out our recent work in Ecological Society where pond sunfish acted as seasonal piscivores in the absence of bass #naturalhistory esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.10…

We’re hiring in #Winnipeg! Did you know you can estimate a fish's age by counting rings on its otoliths, similar to tree rings? Help us with this exciting work at the Winnipeg Fish Ageing Lab. We're hiring! Dive into fisheries science and apply today. ow.ly/WVHj50TZom7

New paper from Steph Blain! If you’re interested in our new approach to meta-analyses with more than two groups (e.g., ecotypes), it’s definitely worth a read. Plus, discover ecological drivers influencing post-glacial lake divergence! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/fw…

Just came across this method from 1970: researchers used a periscope-like device frozen into the ice to watch fish under the surface. Such a clever way to study winter ecosystems! 🐟❄️ From Magnuson & Karlen (1970). Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences #FisheriesScience doi.org/10.1139/f70-122

📣 Just published in ConservationPhysiology with Jacob Bowman , Chris Wilson, and Graham Raby How much does upper thermal tolerance vary among wild populations of brook trout? What drives this variation? 🌡️ 🧵 1/5 doi.org/10.1093/conphy…

What are the effects of tagging on fishes? Our review + meta-analysis explores intracoelomic tagging effects in fishes. We summarize the existing literature and examine the 2% rule using evidence from a broad representation of all published studies. Preprint link below 🧵

Just out in Environmental Biology of Fishes! This paper is something to be proud of, we spent an incredible amount of time at some of Manitoba’s best lake trout fisheries. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
