SFMTA deflecting blame is actually surprising and probably motivated by neighborhood groups and some local merchants who fear the loss of cars will hurt their business. (Hence Melgar's flip flop and creating a "commission" to study traffic safety at this intersection.)

NYC homeowner's association doesn't want their obstruction to be documented or recorded at a public meeting. Sounds just like the West Portal obstructionists.

Peskin cosplays as a cyclist despite voting against Car-free JFK and failing to deliver bike infrastructure in his district. Shameful pandering Aaron. sfgate.com/bayarea/articl…

I bike daily in SF. Waymos over human drivers for safety all the way. Human drivers care more about what’s in the car, waymos care more about what’s outside the car, which makes everyone safer on the roads.

Build Housing Right? My car-brain brother lives in West Portal. While he acknowledges the horror of what happened to that family at the bus stop, he complains about any measures to slow down car traffic or block it from some areas. *sigh*

Bill Hangley Jr The fitting, just and *effective* consequence for unintentional injury/death caused by negligent driving is fine, community service and loss of car and license. In cases of criminal negligence jail time. But the thing that will actually make roads safer is fewer bad drivers.

“I’m sick of seniors being used as an excuse for claiming that driving everywhere in San Francisco is essential. Here’s what [a] 74-year-old would like to see in city transportation […] Noticeably absent is getting into a car and driving everywhere at any time.” Well said Fran!

For years we've been reading about young drivers wanting to opt out of driving. And for years we've continued to plan & design infrastructure that requires driving.
