Somerville has set a precedent for other cities by coming out in unanimous support of sex work decriminalization to support sex workers’ safety.

Decriminalizing sex work will help reduce sex trafficking. How?

Criminalization keeps the industry underground, making sex workers vulnerable to abuse & making it impossible to report crimes. Under decrim, it’s easier to report trafficking, and to sue abusive managers.

Congratulations to Belgium, which granted employee protections for sex workers today - including the ability to refuse a client or stop a sexual act.

Decriminalization is just the first step - after that, we also need labor rights written into law!

They are training hotel staff to call the police if they spot a sex worker & for maids to go through the trash to look for condoms. The government-funded misinformation campaign to create awareness about trafficking, in reality, is promoting stigma & violence against sex workers.

Individuals that have been sex trafficked will tell you there is NO WAY to spot sex trafficking. None. Zero. The money being wasted on these programs is astronomical and is doing nothing to help actual victims.
