Regarding the protest in Brookfield right now. I'm a firm believer in the first amendment and the right to free speech. That being said, this behavior is absolutely reckless and displays a blatant disregard for the health of our most vulnerable neighbors.

As I said before and after I voted no on the last coronavirus bill, it was never designed to work. The approach is inefficient and fundamentally flawed. The law disadvantages the smallest, least resourced businesses. Even if they get a loan, the PPP/UI interplay creates problems.

The best thing we could have done is get universal monthly cash relief to the people. This direct aid to their employees would have more quickly and effectively supported those small businesses that need the most help and are being left behind by the convoluted relief package.
